Mary's Column ‒ Bangóné’s Column

It was erected by a woman named Bangóné to commemorate the end of the plague in 1711. There is an angel’s head among the leaf ornaments at the top of the 380-centimetre-high column. There was an Immaculata statue on top of the column originally located alongside Petőfi Street in the western corner of the church park but it collapsed and was ruined during World War II. The empty column was presumably then relocated next to the sacristy joining the church on the southwestern side. The sacristy was demolished, leaving the empty capital of column behind where a Pieta statue was erected from donations of the congregation in 2007.
